JOB DESCRIPTION – SUBTITUTE PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with students with significant learning, cognitive, physical and emotional disabilities.
APPOINTMENT AND TENURE
Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. Tenure shall be granted in accordance with state mandates.
CONTRACT AND SALARY
The salary for the position shall be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the contract between the Board of Education and the Mercer County Special Services School District Principal’s Association.
REPORTS TO
The principal shall report to the superintendent His/her performance shall be evaluated in a manner consistent with policies and procedures of the Board of Education, as described in policy 4115.1.

- Assume responsibility for the management of the school in accordance with law, administrative code and board policies and regulations.
- Exercise leadership in school-level planning for improvement of instruction. Involve teachers and parents in the development and implementation of state-required two year school plans to achieve performance objectives. Review the plan with teaching staff at least once per semester and submits an annual statement of assurance on the prescribed form.
- Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
- Assist in the selection of appropriate instructional materials; and monitors delivery of the instructional program.
- Participate in the development, evaluation and revision of curriculum and assume responsibility for the implementation of approved programs.
- Plan, organize and supervise all curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Interview, recommend for appointment, assign, supervise and evaluate the performance of all school employees and assist them in achievement of their job goals.
- Conduct observations of teaching staff members; prepare written comments; and offer constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate.
- Prepare and submit the school's budget requests and monitor the expenditure of funds.
- Establish and maintain an efficient office system to support the administrative functions of the school.
- Ensure the safekeeping of student and personnel files and other confidential records and documents; and the destruction of public records in accordance with law and regulations.

- Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary in accordance with board policy and the students’ rights to due process.
- Notify immediately the parent or guardian and the chief school administrator to arrange for an immediate examination by a physician of any pupil suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs or of using anabolic steroids.
- Submit an annual school improvement plan regarding the school's needs and planned activities.
- Plan and supervise fire and other emergency drills as required by law and board policy.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of all reports, records and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
- Conduct staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
- Plan and supervise regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences; and make arrangements for special conferences as necessary.
- Act as liaison between the school, the home and the community; interpret policies, programs and activities; and encourage board community participation in the affairs of the school.
- Keep the superintendent informed of school activities and needs and work cooperatively with central office staff on matters relating to the school and the district
- Keep abreast of current trends and research.
- Develop and maintain a master schedule for the academic, extracurricular programs, and work cooperatively with the business administrator to schedule community use of the school building and grounds.
- Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions.
- Ensure the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds.
- Coordinate the assignment of staff and pupils to educational programs.
- Plan and implement programs for in-service training and staff development
- Participate in the development and review of Individualized Educational Programs as required by state regulations.
- Develop and implement procedures for the monitoring and review of pupil progress as described in Individualized Educational Programs required by state regulations.
- Establish and maintain effective rapport and liaison with staff, parents and the community under the direction of the superintendent
- Plan and implement procedures for parent meetings and other parent contacts.
- Develop and implement procedures for the reporting of pupil progress to parents, the superintendent and the board.
- Exhibit respect and support for and adherence to goals, objectives, policies and procedures approved by the Board of Education.
- Share in the upholding and enforcing rules, administrative regulations, and the policies of the Board of Education.
- Perform additional duties to those specified at the request of the superintendent or his/her designee.
